Saturday, November 23, 2024

More than 153 UA - Pulaski Technical College faculty have improved their teaching practices through a program with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). This rigorous, evidence based, 25-week course engages instructors with independently validated research to improve student achievement and close equity gaps. ACUE Focus is a question and answer series where faculty share their experiences with ACUE.

1. What ACUE Cohort were you a part of?

UA-PTC ACUE Cohort Fall 18-Spring 19

2. What do you teach and how do you think you benefited from the ACUE course?

I teach Nutrition and the Concepts of Lifetime Health and Wellness class. I offer both classes as traditional face to face, online, and hybrid modalities.

3. Best thing you learned from ACUE?

The best thing I learned was to keep an open mind and always be open to try new things. New teaching methods may be outside our comfort zone but stepping outside of our comfort zone is how we improve.

4. Do you think your students benefited from you taking the ACUE course and if so, how?

I believe my students benefited from my ACUE experience because being pushed to try new things in class and look at learning and teaching from a different perspective keeps things fresh and fun.

5. What was your favorite module in ACUE?

It has been a while since I completed the ACUE class, but I am currently enrolled in a mini ACUE course for online learning, and I am excited to have the opportunity to try more new things. I believe the modules focused on student success and making a personal connection have the potential to positively impact success and retention rates in our courses.
